So today I am back to my good old self. Full of venom and ready to spew. So what is my target today? Here is a story.
I coach baseball and basketball. Since I have two sons of two different ages, it means I coach multiple teams. And I enjoy the coaching and camaraderie (need spellcheck with that one) with the kids. The parents are another thing.
So one of the teams I coach is a clinic basketball team made up of 1st and 2nd grade boys. Good kids. And we have a lot of fun. But every once in awhile, you get a parent who thinks their kid is the next Steve Nash or LeBron James. At the age of 8. So they want their player to be bumped to the next level. And usually they say because shooting at 8.5" baskets and playing clinic rules isn't a challenge. But this same parent also tried to move their player up in baseball because "he's been able to hit a ball since they were 3!".
Now I know the kid. And he's a good kid. But he's not better than the rest of the kids and if he's bored and needs a challenge, go out as a parent, find a club-level team (that costs big $$$$) and really give him a challenge. Stop pushing the kid because you couldn't cut it when you were little. In all actuality, the kid probably just wants to play with his pals. Give it a rest.
Took my sons to the batting cages today so they didn't play video games all day. Went to a place we've never been - Lefty's in Clifton, NJ. Great place. Highly recommended.
And in the odd I've never seen this department - I'm watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind for the first time ever right now. Movie came out in 1977, so I guess I'm a little behind in my viewing.
