Snow day here in the metropolitan area - latest buzz is we're getting a foot of the white stuff after a fairly mild winter so far. Had to happen!
How many times was A-Rod tested last year? That's the question. He says 9-10, everybody realizes that means he might have tested positive for amphetamines (aka greenies, player's coffee) and greenlighted the additional six tests from the positive exam. But now the Yankees are saying he exaggerated.
This guy is arguably the best player in baseball, makes a boatload full of cash, but still is a lightning A-Rod for controversy. Go figure.
Finished reading "Reversing the Curse" by Dan Shaugnessy. Good read.
Next time.

Room 510
Stayed at the incredibly beautiful Hotel Hershey over the weekend, in Hershey, PA. They make chocolate there. Great place, overlooking HersheyPark - lots to do and see. Highly recommedended for the family.
Anyway, to my point. Sometimes you get some really rude people staying in the room next door. I have two grade school age boys - and when the people next door are slamming doors, screaming and yelling, and playing Alvin and the Chipmunks on PPV real loud, then we might have a problem. Called the front desk at 10:45PM, asking them to ask these folks (who paid for their room) to quiet down a bit. Not sure if anyone did. But my thinking is, when you pay for accomodations, let the hotel handle it.
So it stopped for a while, but around midnight started up again. So now it's time to deal with it. Walk out into the hall, knock on the door and wait, and wait. Hear some 'shhh's' and can see someone is looking through the spyglass on the door, but is afraid to open the door. Including the father, who I can hear telling everyone to be quiet. Sir, I don't know who you are, or what your name is, but you get the Chickens**t Award. What a coward.
Happy President's Day.

Happy Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day
Wasn't there a massacre a long time ago?
Depending on who you believe, there was one on Capitol Hill yesterday as well. In the same room that Mark McGuire destroyed his own legacy and chance at joining the HOF, Mr. Roger Clemens (aka "The Rocket") stammered through questioning, inventing new words ('misremembers') and generally came off as somebody with something to hide.
Don't get me wrong, Brian McNamee is no sympathetic character, and I'm sure "the whole truth" is something he struggles with on a daily basis. But with Andy Pettitte talking, maybe to clear his conscience, maybe to come 100% clean so he can move on, ol' Rog looks more and more suspicious. (Full disclosure - I don't like Roger Clemens)
So, I like to keep an open mind, but it's getting tough on this one.
Pitchers and catchers report today for the NY Mets in Port St. Lucie. Let's play ball.

WELCOME
February 13, 2008. Felt like starting a blog. Mostly we'll talk baseball here, but on the off-chance something else bothers me (bad drivers, bad habits, life's everyday affairs) we can discuss that as well.
Who am I - mostly I get called dad (which is my avocation) or coach, which I volunteer to do. Some people are actually surprised when they find out I have a job (yikes!)
Today, the US Congress is deep in session talking about performance-enhancing drugs in baseball. How fitting that Spring Training is starting in some spots at the same time. makes you wonder what to say to your the children of this nation who play the game. More about that later...
