You can't turn the page of NY rags or listen to the local airwaves without running into the biggest story coming from the Bronx, namely the NYY-Jeter negotiations/contract/life partnership.
Fact - Jeter is not really worth much to anybody but the Yankees. Except maybe the Red Sox, who would love to stick it to the Bombers.
Fact - Jeter is older and slower. He's 37, lost a lot of range (A-Rod* has to almost play in the hole so Jeter can cheat towards 2B!), and has seen his best days behind.
Fact - The Yankees rarely overpay for their own free agents. Reference R. Jackson, B. Williams, J. Damon.
Fact - 3 years at $45m is not gonna get this done. If you were the Capt., wouldn't you want money in the A-Rod* stratosphere? I would. He's Jeter.
So we wait. Could get done. Could get bloody.
