In a word, that describes the "sideline NFL reporter".
I guess this began in the late 70's when you had limited exposure to any information. In the NY Metro area you had four or five channels and the daily papers. So a "sideline NFL reporter" was a way to get some additional though severely limited insight.
Now, you have 24/7 access to everything, so the tantalizing tidbits such as "so and so says today's game is a golden opportunity..." is worthless. Heard it, seen it, read it on Twitter (not really).
And Pam Oliver is beginning to look like a Patagonian Toothfish with all the work she's had done.

Not A Shirt
First post of 2010!
Anyway, the Clan SoulSlam went to the movies on NYD - and decided to grab a bite after.
Went to the local Applebee's, which tends to put sauces and spreads that I don't like on everything. Oh, well.
So we have about a 10 minute wait and I spy a fellow with some girth chowing down and drinking Heineken. What caught my eye was the unbelievably tight, bright red Under Armour mock turtleneck he was wearing in public.
Now, Under Armour makes a fine product. And if your on the field, out in the elements, etc. it makes a lot of sense to wear. I could even see it being worn with a fleece or t-shirt over it.
But:
1. While you are gorging yourself in public
2. In a color that screams "HERE I AM"
3 And the most strenuous thing your doing is dipping a mozzarella stick
Is not the best use of this technologically advanced fabric.
Gonna be a good year!

Resolution Time
Rolls around every year my bi-ped friends!
SoulSlam has a few:
Lose weight
Get back on my damn bike! (which helps with above)
Be the best youth baseball coach I can
Get a crew-cut!
And though not really resolutions but everyday opportunities - be the best husband and father I can to the Clan SoulSlam!
Here's an Irish Blessing for the new year:
May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.
And may you be in heaven
a full half hour before the devil knows you're dead.
Happy New Year.

Omar 2
Guess he was listening to the sound of SoulSlam's voice!
BTW - Dropkick Murphy's will be playing "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" before the hockey game at Fenway on New Year's. Enjoy this as a sample.

Omar?
Omar? Omar?? Where are you?
Missed my chance to post in real-time when the highly sought-after (that is a joke) Kelvim Escobar signed an incentive-laden deal. Oh boy. Besides that superb RA Dickey deal, I guess you have to say The Mets Braintrust has been busy. RIIGHHHT!
Giants sign DeRosa. That leaves 3 left fielders playing a virtual game of musical chairs with the Cards and Mets. Holliday, Bay and Damon are looking at two seats that will pay some big dough. Damon is looking to be this year's Giambi.
