Strategic Partners

So the Wilpons are now having a press conference announcing that they are seeking Strategic Partners for the Mets. Speculation is they are running out of the moulah-di and need a quick infusion.
Given that roster, I could kick in a couple of hundys to be a partner.
Probably not what they want though.

More White Stuff
Snow, not the other nefarious things you wrong-thinking fans of Grandmaster Flash are thinking about!
Snow in the forecast - could be 8' or more before we is done. This really is too much. Don't tell me about global warming...but that whole 2012 thing seems plausible.
18 days to pitchers & catchers!

Feeling Minnesota
Too cold for anything townsfolk. Except a little basketball (travel and rec) in a number of gyms.
But our teams are not faring well. Could be the coaching, which puts it on me I guess. Except for the rec part...I'm just an assistant there. And the kids don't seem to get the game on that team. Had a little comeback last night but fell short. Again.
Then I got yelled at by some toad at another town's YM-YWHA this morning. See, I brought a coffee (for me) and a Gatorade (for my kid) into the gym. So some guy with a swipe badge took umbrance and yelled at me. So I chugged the coffee in front of him, and placed the sport drink in the bag. Then I told him that the crone at the front desk saw me with the coffee, she should have said something. So Mr. No told me that there are signs posted everywhere. Trouble is, I don't read signs in a place I never go and the gym is right in front of me. So I told him that too. Guys don't read signs. I am 100% guy.
We had a good baseball practice last night though. The 12's are getting strong, the 10's are coming along. I am ready for the diamond.
Got some more snow in the forecast. Hence the name of this post. I am pretty much wiped with the frozen precipitation.
BTW, I'm sure you will all equate the said title of this post with a certain Keanu Reeves movie, which I have never seen. But SoulSlam is referring to the line in the Soundgarden song. Just to clarify.
Last - hair is wild beyond belief. 10 weeks and counting...

Social D - Back in Action!

All hail Mike Ness!
One of SoulSlam's favorite bands of all-time, the mighty Social Distortion has released their latest album, 'Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes', their first studio tilt in 7 years.
It absolutely rocks. Take it from this OG.
And they were on Conan last night...check it out.

Where's the Parade?
Today is MLK Day, a holiday without any TV specials, parades, drinking agendas or gift-giving. I'm not sure why.
Looking for the names of two decrepit refs from Saturday's 4G game. I need to complain to people who won't listen, but I will feel better doing it.
Can't believe the Jets put one over the Pats. Now I can't listen to WFAN for a couple of days. Too many yahoos bleeding green. And I hope Fireman Ed falls down a flight of stairs.
My picks for the Championship games:
Chicago over GB
Blitz-burgh over NYJ

What The Machine Costs

Since Sandy is sand-bagging 2011 so approximately $60MM comes off the books at the end of this coming season, I guess the Mets could have a shot, if it all comes to fruition.
I'm sure we'll sign a backup catcher instead. But he'll have a high OBP and cost very little. Comforting.
Checkin' In

So we played the juggernaut last night. We were tied 10-10 at the end of 1Q, down by 9 but competing at the end of the half. We still got blown out but put up 27 points which I consider a minor victory. D-bag coach of the other town (yeah, I'm talkin' to you) kept fast-breaking and playing M2M even when he was up by 20. We gave a couple of hard fouls, so all was not lost. Now we gotta stop turning over the ball 2 out of every 3 times up the court. We have a winnable game this afternoon at another town outside my perimeter...hope to get the first W there.
Baseball practice began in earnest last night... you can definitely tell who's even looked at their gloves since the season ended. Some catching and throwing, sprints and baserunning drills and 45 minutes of hitting to shake off the rust. I only had 2/3 of team there for a variety of reasons. This is a 12U, so if you can't hold your end of the bargain up with practice and hard work, you will get to play "left out", if you catch the drift of Coach SoulSlam.
10U team looked real rusty from what I could see. I had to put a scare into a couple who decided to free swing outside the safety of the tunnel. Not the brightest kids there.
Adios.

Looking for Payback
My 4th grade team plays the team that put a whoopin' on us last Sunday. Play them in 2.5 hours. I expect to win. Told my team the same. I am an optimist!
Then we go to first baseball practice of the season at 8:30. Can't wait. Interesting to see who picked up a glove over the last 5 months. I know the Sons of SoulSlam have.
C-Ya. Enjoy your Friday.

Like A Kid
Actual in my neck of the woods was 6"-8", so work today.
Kids have off though, would be nice if adults (at least the responsible ones with jobs) got snow days like them.
The snow-thrower was fandy-tastic this morning too.
Back to the grind.

Snow Again
Another mother of a storm is heading NJ-way. Predictions of 12"-18" are being bandied about.
SoulSlam is ready.
Facial hair is removed. Hair is getting long. Nine weeks is coming up.

The Proverbial A$$-Kickings

Hope the blog police don't get mad at me for the title.
Travel hoops this weekend. Let's start with the 4th grade team.
Went to a faraway (well 25 miles) town yesterday to play a game in a tiny gym. Played really well, great D, came within 3 points with 2 minutes to go. Couldn't seal the deal. Lost 24-19.
Then today comes and my team couldn't do a thing. We lost 26-6 (I can't look at scorebook so I'm hypothesizing here) - but it wasn't that close. We couldn't handle the ball, couldn't pass, played slow D, and generally looked really terrible. I guess it could have been worse since this team we played has lit up everybody. And we get to play them again next Friday. Can't wait. Gonna have to change a couple of things this Thursday at practice.
Now the 7th grade team. So we have a team of 7th graders, not the tall ones either. OK. The league we play in can be 7th or 8th or combined, and we played the biggest town in the area's 8th grade team. Guess what? They were really TALL. And thick. So we looked like David vs. Goliath, only this time the slingshot wasn't working. Got crushed. Lost 46-17. They probably could have scored 100 if they really wanted to.
Basketball. Rough weekend.

Snow Cancels Life
So we have another snow event here, but the word is it's only a few inches (3"-5") so we won't have to deal with the apocalypse we had last week.
But...
Kids went to school, got sent home
Basketball game is cancelled tonight (but we might practice)
First baseball practice of season got postponed
In the good news department, I got the Ariens up and running again last night. Belt was a little tough to find, but find it I did. Gonna tear around the driveway later!
Hair is a little wild today. And I started a goatee. I will be the envy of all.

The Follicle Chronicles
Since I've decided not to listen to the man anymore, I am growing out my 'do.
Eight weeks. Eight. I look like a really big chia pet right about now. It's pretty windy out today, so it's a shag.
I'll keep you posted.

I'm looking for a nice hairpick.

Two Days Down
Well, 2011 is in full swing now. We're about 0.5% of the way through, give or take.
How about a resolution? I haven't cut my hair since the week before Thanksgiving. That makes me a couple away from 8 weeks. Longest I've gone w/o a haircut in the last 15 years or so is 4 weeks. My head looks unruly. I should grow a mustache as well. Let me ponder that.
Now that the holidays are behind us (well except for MLK Day!), we start playing a lot of hoops in earnest. And the travel baseball program starts winter workouts indoors this Friday. Busy time begins again.
